Diane's Story

Diane Elaine Collins of Waseca, age 66, passed away from cancer after a lengthy illness. She is survived by her husband, Larry; daughter, Shayna Collins and her husband, Patrick Bond, Portland, Oregon; son, Blake Collins, Salt Lake City, Utah; mother, Ruthann Welander, Sun City, Arizona; sister, Linda Thies (Michael), Des Moines, Iowa; sister, Terry Scanlan (George), LeClaire, Iowa; brother, Steve Welander (Jan), Tucson, Arizona; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Herb Welander. Dianes early years were spent on the family farm near Pomeroy, Iowa. She graduated from high school in West Branch. In her junior year, she competed in state competitions in voice, French horn, and piano. Her senior year was spent in Germany as a foreign exchange student. She graduated from the University of Minnesota. She was a Waseca High School teacher for many years, where she taught English, German, and reading. She served as the foreign exchange student coordinator. Diane was a life-long learner. She loved to read, travel, garden, and spend time with her family. Her life was enriched by her love of her horses and many family cats and dogs. A private memorial service will be held at a time and place to be determined.
