Scottsdale, AZ (formerly of No. Mankato, MN) - Delmont O. "Del" Syverson passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 3, 2017 at Pueblo Norte Senior Living Center in Scottsdale, AZ.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Messiah Lutheran Church in North Mankato, MN. Visitation will be held Friday, December 8th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Woodland Hills Funeral Home, 1605 Woodland Ave., Mankato, MN where the family will greet visitors. Visitation will continue on Saturday one hour before services at the church. Interment with military honors will be in Woodland Hills Memorial Park.
Delmont was born on July 16, 1921 in New Ulm, MN to Oscar and Caroline (Petersen) Syverson. He grew up on the family farm near Hanska, MN, graduating from Hanska High School in 1941. He was honored to serve in the U.S. Army during WW II from 1942-1945 serving in North Africa and Italy where he was awarded the Bronze Star for acts of bravery. After the war Del studied at Mankato Vocational School to become an automotive mechanic. After obtaining his degree he was employed by the Wonder Bread Company in No. Mankato as fleet mechanic, and subsequently held a similar position for the City of North Mankato until his retirement in1986, after which he enjoyed visiting with people as a Courtesy Driver for Clements Auto.
On March 28, 1947 he was united in marriage to Dolores Bruns at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mankato. They had two children, Johnne and Mary.
Del enjoyed doing yard work, both at home and at Messiah Lutheran Church where he served on the Property Committee for many years. Del and Dolores enjoyed spending winters in Tucson, AZ for 20 years before moving there permanently in 2008.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Janice. He is survived by: His wife of 70 years, Dolores Syverson; Children: Johnne (Linda) Syverson of Des Moines, IA and Mary (Jay Budzien) Stapelman of Scottsdale, AZ; Grandchildren: Michele Pettorini, Beth Syverson, Matthew Syverson, Jennifer Beck and Andrew Stapelman; 17 great grandchildren and many friends and acquaintances.
