Dean C Bentdahl, 69, of Mankato died on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at his winter home in Scottsdale, AZ from complications of ALS. Dean was born on May 2, 1948 in Madelia, MN to Melvin and Margaret Bentdahl. He attended schools in the area and graduated from New Ulm High school in 1967. He enlisted into the USMC in 1968 and served in the Vietnam War. On June 11, 1970 Dean was united in marriage to Winnie Bell of Mankato at Camp LeJeune, NC. In 1972 Dean was honorably discharged from the USMC and returned home to Mankato.
Dean was employed by Honeymead/CHS for 41 years. He also spent time working on his friends farms, where he lived his passion for farming. In retirement Dean and Winnie would spend their winters surrounded by great friends in Scottsdale AZ.
Dean was a very proud and loving father and grandfather who truly lived for spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed telling them stories of his childhood, and farming, as well as stories of his time spent in Vietnam. Dean was a great teacher to his grandchildren and their hero. His greatest legacy will be the influence he had on his grandchildren's lives. He will be greatly missed.
Dean is survived by his wife Winnie; two sons, Jeff ("Hippy"), fiancé Staci Queen and Brian, wife Valerie; four grandsons, Tyler, Kaden, Chase, and Alexander John, (AJ) all of Mankato; one sister Marva (Murray) Thurston of St. Paul; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Leon and Wayne; brothers-in-law: Barry Bell, John Bell, and Bruce Borkenhagen.
A celebration of life with military honors will be held in Spring, 2018.
